Oidhche | Night | Alba 4ply
The Alba yarn collection is exclusive to Sealy MacWheely and has been blended and spun specially to my specifications with a unique blend of top quality British bred fibres.
Each colourway has been inspired by the landscape, language and folklore of the beautiful country of Scotland:
Oidhche [ɤ̃ĩçə] (oy-cha) - the Scottish Gaelic word for night is one of my favourite Gaelic words and this shade of blue is an homage to the summer nights in Scotland when the sky never gets truly dark. Arguably though the biggest night of the year occurs at the opposite end of the calendar with Hogmanay, or Oidhche Challainn. Customs vary across the country but on South Uist, a strip of sheep's breast dipped in wax was traditionally taken door to door, set alight and passed three times around each household member's head - if the flame went out, it was said that the person holding it would not survive the year.
This yarn has been worsted spun for a soft yet rustic yarn, the perfect match of luxury and performance. Enjoy the softness of British Bluefaced Leicester, the durability of the Scottish Shetland and the luxury of the UK bred Alpaca, expertly blended for an exquisite feel that's built to last. Experience the warmth and comfort of this exclusive yarn – perfect for your special projects!
Semisolid yarns make a great contrast for your favourite variegated hand dyed skeins or can be used by themselves to add a pop of colour to your next project. They feature subtle tonal variations which add a beautiful depth of shade when knitted or crocheted up.
