Gaelic folklore is full of stories of the sìtheanaich or faerie people/fays although they're not so much the Tinkerbell sort as you might imagine.
One of my favourite superstitions from the Gàidhealtachd is that a spinner should always remove the drive band from her wheel before going to bed at night to prevent the fays from breaking in and destroying a bobbins worth of hard work as she sleeps.
